With changing forms of armed conflict which may involve multi-national operations, transnational armed groups, and organised criminal gangs, the need for clarity of the law is all-important.

This event will explore the challenges in classifying armed violence, as discussed in the book, International Law and the Classification of Conflicts (Oxford University Press, August 2012). The speakers will consider likely future trends in the law relating to the classification of armed conflicts. Other contributors to the book will add their comments.

This event will be followed by an open drinks reception at 19:00.
