Nuclear Non-Proliferation: Towards a WMD Free Zone in the Middle East
Dr Patricia Lewis, Research Director, International Security, Chatham House
New political developments and tensions in the Middle East have brought into focus the pressing need to work towards a Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) free zone in the region. The UK, the US and Russia - along with the UN Secretary General and all the states in the Middle East - are moving ahead with plans to hold a meeting late in 2012 to discuss prospects for such a zone. Dr Patricia Lewis will discuss the developments announced at the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty conference held in Vienna earlier this month and assess the likelihood for success.
Attendance is strictly by invitation only. To enable as open a debate as possible, this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
