Chatham House, London

HE Joyce Banda, President of Malawi
Chair: Alex Vines OBE, Research Director of Area Studies and International Law; Head of the Africa Programme, Chatham House

Malawi stands to gain considerably from globalization and the increasing importance of Southern and Eastern Africa as global trade hubs. Yet these developments can present considerable challenges, and Malawi is experiencing what is often a painful transition as it adjusts to international economic realities.
