How to Finish a Revolution: Civil Society in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine

20 June 2012 - 10:30am to 12:00pm

Chatham House, London

Orysia Lutsevych, Robert Bosch Visiting Fellow, Russia and Eurasia Programme, Chatham House

Orysia Lutsevych will discuss the internal and external factors that shape civil society in Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine.

The past decade has seen large-scale mobilizations of citizens in Georgia (2003), Ukraine (2004) and Moldova (2009), yet civil society remains weak in each of these countries. The speaker will say that space for public debate is narrow and citizens have little influence over political developments, which makes backsliding on democratic reforms more likely.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
