Overview

The speakers will argue that China has reached a critical juncture in its economic development and, unless it is able to overcome the difficulties in undertaking further reforms, may get caught in the middle income trap. They will draw upon the forthcoming publication A New Economic Growth Engine for China (World Scientific and Imperial College Press) to discuss a new paradigm for economic development, short-term demand management, institutional reforms for middle-term growth, and strengthening the fundamentals for long-term growth in China.
