The Future of Equity Markets
John Kay, Economist; Columnist, Financial Times; Fellow, St John's College, University of Oxford
John Kay will discuss the future of equity markets in the UK, following his recent review on the topic for the UK Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.
The review reveals that public equity markets have ceased to be a significant source of finance for investment in British business, and that savers have received disappointing returns in the last decade.
John Kay will address what can be done to re-establish a system less focused on the profitability of market participants and more on the needs of the non-financial sector economy in equity markets and in the financial system more generally.
This event is strictly by invitation only. To enable as open a debate as possible, this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
