The Politics of Climate Change in Africa

25 September 2012 - 10:00am to 11:30am

Chatham House, London

Bob Dewar CMG, Associate Fellow, Africa Programme, Chatham House

Africa is highly vulnerable to the consequences of climate change. Some African countries have taken an active lead in responding to the problem, implementing new policies and initiatives to deal with the impacts and some continent-wide strategies have recently emerged. Yet in many countries, disseminating and translating an awareness of the acuteness of the problem into concrete policy measures is hindered by capacity limitations and often a lack of political awareness and will.

The event will provide an opportunity to discuss and feed into Bob Dewar's forthcoming paper on the importance of African states putting aside their conflicting interests and collectively implementing continent-wide policies to combat climate change.

Attendance is by invitation only.
