The Demise of US-Russia Reset: What's Next?
Andrew Kuchins, Senior Fellow and Director, Russia and Eurasia Program, Center for Strategic and International Studies
The speaker will argue that the US-Russia reset has achieved little progress on issues such as missile defence, and that the events of the Arab spring have caused further disagreements between the two countries. The outcome of the 2012 US November presidential election could have an impact on the relationship as Russia will not be a foreign policy priority for either of the presidential candidates.
Yet while improvements in relations is unlikely, cooperation on some issues, Afghanistan in particular, remains in the interest of both states. Andrew Kuchins will discuss this and the possible future trajectories of the US-Russia relationship.
Attendance is by invitation only.
