US Economic Policy: Fiscal and Political Challenges Ahead

28 November 2012 - 8:00am to 9:15am

Chatham House, London

Peter Orszag, Vice Chairman, Corporate and Investment Banking, Citigroup; Contributing Columnist, Bloomberg View

With the presidential election over, the speaker will discuss how the US might deal with the economic challenges ahead. He will consider the likelihood of avoiding the fast-approaching ‘fiscal cliff’, the series of automatic tax increases and deep spending cuts set to take place should Congress fail to reach agreement on budget deficit reduction plans. He will also share his insights into how a second Obama administration might build on recent signs of growth in the economy in the face of the US’s challenging macroeconomic conditions.

Attendance is strictly by invitation only. To enable as open a debate as possible, this event will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
