The Convergence of Civilizations: Reforming International Institutions

14 March 2013 - 1:00pm to 2:00pm

Chatham House, London

Professor Kishore Mahbubani, Dean, Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy, National University of Singapore; Author, The Great Convergence: Asia, the West, and the Logic of One World
Chair: Lord Williams of Baglan, Distinguished Visiting Fellow and Acting Head, Asia Programme, Chatham House

The speaker will argue that, while the global economy is spreading prosperity and economic power to new areas, the structures of global governance have not caught up.

Professor Mahbubani will stress that there is the potential for a new and peaceful global civilization – absolute poverty is declining, the global middle class is booming and people are more widely travelled and better educated than ever before – but pragmatic and innovative reforms are needed to help international institutions tackle modern challenges.
