Turkey's Economy: An Example for the Middle East and North Africa?

11 March 2013 - 11:00am to 12:15pm

Chatham House, London

Dr Numan Kurtulmuş, Deputy Chairman for Economic Affairs, Justice and Development Party (AKP), Turkey
Chair: Fadi Hakura, Associate Fellow, Europe, Chatham House

Through a decade of almost uninterrupted expansion, Turkey has had sustained economic growth rates, reduced poverty levels and increased inflows of foreign direct investment. The speaker will argue that the 'Anatolian Tigers', combining Islamic piety with business entrepreneurship, have contributed significantly to expanding exports to the region. He will also discuss the extent to which Turkey may represent an economic example to countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

Attendance is by invitation only.

The Q&A will be held under the Chatham House Rule.
