Madeleine K Albright, US Secretary of State (1997-2001)
Chair: Dr Robin Niblett, Director, Chatham House

Madeleine Albright, in a conversation with Dr Robin Niblett, shared her insights into the relevance of diplomacy and its impact upon a state's power abroad. In this context, she discussed how US and EU foreign policy approaches need to adapt to the rise of new global actors and whether this will alter the transatlantic relationship.

In light of the 10 year anniversary of the Iraq invasion and the ongoing crisis in Syria, she shared her views on how transatlantic approaches to the Middle East have changed since her tenure as secretary of state.
