Change in Angola: The Role of UNITA

29 April 2013 - 5:00pm to 6:00pm

Chatham House, London

Isaias Samakuva, President, National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA)

Following the end of Angola's civil war, Isaias Samakuva was elected leader of UNITA, the country's largest opposition party, and re-elected as leader in 2011. He has overseen the transformation of UNITA from an armed movement to a political party that contested in the 2008 and 2012 national legislative elections.

At this Angola Forum roundtable, Isaias Samakuva will provide an assessment of change in Angola over the last decade and UNITA’s contribution to democratic development. He will discuss the role of his party in national transformation and in building democratic institutions and processes in Angola.
