Ghana's Democratic Gains, Economic Change and Regional Influence
HE John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana
Chair: Alex Vines, Research Director, Area Studies and International Law; Head, Africa Programme, Chatham House
Following peaceful elections in 2012, the National Democratic Congress was returned to power in Ghana. The government and its new leader now confront a number of critical issues including the effective management of revenues from the expanding oil sector, strengthening governance and service delivery, and maintaining a record of accelerated economic growth.
HE President Mahama will discuss his government's approach to addressing these issues, reflect on the strength of Ghana’s democracy, and present his vision for the country’s future and its regional role.
