International Security Challenges and the Future of NATO
Franco Frattini, President, Italian Society for International Organization; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Italy (2002-04; 2008-11)
Chair: Dr Patricia Lewis, Research Director, International Security, Chatham House
As September’s NATO summit in Wales approaches, the speaker – a candidate for the post of NATO Secretary General – will discuss the alliance’s post-Afghanistan priorities at a time of growing financial constraints in Europe and North America.
He will consider NATO’s increasingly asymmetrical and transnational security challenges, and outline his vision of how these may be successfully managed through the alliance’s core security tasks of collective defence, crisis management and cooperative security.
