Overview

The speaker will argue that the US government shutdown last year reflects the extent to which political polarization in America has taken hold within the US body politic, and within Congress in particular. He will discuss this trend and the consequences it has had for Obama and his hopes of bipartisanship, and more widely on the Obama administration and its policies.
