The Asia-Gulf Energy Relationship
Dr Valérie Marcel, Associate Fellow, Energy, Environment and Resources, Chatham House
Dr Valérie Marcel will examine the emerging trends in the energy relationship between Gulf and Asian states, and argue they point to a closer, and more strategic, association. She will argue Asian importers are concerned about their dependence on Gulf producers, and that increasingly this concern is shared by Middle East exporters – who worry they are too reliant on the Asian market. Yet, knowing the bulk of their future exports will be headed east, she believes Middle East states are interested in the inward energy investments Asian players can provide, which could address some of the pressing economic challenges the region faces.
