28 February 2014 - 14:00 to 15:00

Chatham House, London

Jessie Duarte, Deputy Secretary General, African National Congress
Chair: Elisabete Azevedo-Harman, Research Fellow, Africa Programme, Chatham House

The African National Congress (ANC) is facing its biggest political challenges since it became post-apartheid South Africa’s ruling party, as it seeks to manage economic and social change. Recent media reports have focused on allegations of corruption, unemployment, service delivery and social cohesion, while there are also concerns over factionalism within the party.

At this event, Jessie Duarte, the Deputy Secretary-General of the ANC, will reflect on the responses of the ruling party and will discuss some of the key aspects of the party’s manifesto ahead of South Africa’s 2014 election.
