Governing the Internet: Global Village or Wild West?

1 May 2014 - 5:30pm to 6:30pm

Chatham House, London

The Hon Malcolm Turnbull MP, Minister for Communications, Australia

The global community is intensifying efforts to develop a roadmap for the evolution of internet governance mechanisms. An important part of this process involves agreeing upon arrangements for the transition of legacy US government roles to the multi-stakeholder community. One of the major challenges will be finding ways to evolve key internet governance organizations without losing the multi-stakeholder and private sector-led character of these bodies.

At this roundtable, Australia's Minister for Communications, Malcolm Turnbull, will outline and discuss internet governance challenges and opportunities. In light of the recent launch of the Global Commission on Internet Governance, the upcoming Global Multi-Stakeholder Meeting on the Future of Internet Governance in Sao Paulo and the ICANN 50 meeting in London, this event will provide a timely opportunity to engage with these issues.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
