Lieutenant Colonel Richard Forsyth joined Chatham House (on a six month secondment) as the British Army’s Chief of the General Staff (CGS) visiting fellow within the International Security Department in September 2016.

Prior to this appointment Richard spent eighteen years working as a British Army officer which included overseas operational tours in Northern Ireland, the Falkland Islands, Iraq and Afghanistan. His research areas of interest include security and counterterrorism, including strategy, performance and measurement of effect of European counterterrorism approaches.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Sociology and Social Policy from the University of Stirling and a Master of Defence Studies from Kings College London.
