Overview

Not having access to energy is difficult for everyone, but perhaps more harshly felt by single women who are responsible for the care of children and elderly parents, more so in a refugee camp. A Chatham House report showed that women and girls area at risk of experiencing violence and harassment when walking in isolated areas in search of wood. Without streetlights or energy to power lamps and torches, going to the toilet at night can become a major dangerous experience for women on their own.
