Cristina Duarte has been Minister of Finance, Planning and Public Administration to Cabo Verde, West Africa, since 2006, undertaking reforms and building institutions in response to emerging global and development challenges and raising Cabo Verde from a low to middle-income country in a generation. She has 30 years’ experience in government and the private sector, including serving as Vice President of Citibank in Angola. She was Director for Planning and Studies in the Cabo Verde Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, and an adviser to many international financial and non-governmental organizations. She has been involved in numerous international programmes representing Cabo Verde. She has an abiding interest in public sector management and governance, and international and regional cooperation. She graduated in Economics from the Instituto Superior de Economia e Gestão in Lisbon, Portugal, and has a master’s in Business Administration from the Thunderbird School of Global Management, Arizona.
