Summary

Dr Rangin Dadfar Spanta served as the Foreign Minister and National Security Adviser of Afghanistan (2006–10) and was previously Senior Adviser on International Affairs to President Hamid Karzai. He studied in Germany and worked as Assistant Professor of Political Science at RWTH Aachen University, at the same time serving as the spokesperson for the Alliance for Democracy in Afghanistan, and he was active in the local section of the German Green Party. After the fall of the Taliban, he returned to Afghanistan and taught at Kabul University.
