Overview

There is a growing interest among resource-rich countries in sub-Saharan Africa to pursue policies encouraging the domestic beneficiation of natural resources. By processing and adding value domestically, countries can increase the value of their exports. This retains the countries’ wealth, and such policies could also help to generate jobs, increase human capital and attract international investment.

This workshop will explore the impacts of domestic beneficiation on growth and development in sub-Saharan Africa. A range of experts will explore existing initiatives with special attention to the precious metal and gemstone industries, and outline lessons for other countries and more capital intensive industries.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only. Tea and coffee will be served from 9:00 am.

This event is part of the De Beers Diamond Dialogue Series.
