Energy, Climate Change and the Three Domains of Sustainable Development

Chatham House, London

Energy, Environment and Resources Department

Participants

Speaker: Michael Grubb, Professor of International Energy and Climate Policy, UCL
Respondent: Alastair Totty, Climate Change and Energy Department, Foreign and Commonwealth Office

Overview

At this roundtable meeting Professor Michael Grubb will analyse why progress on energy and climate has been so difficult and offer a new framework to explain how the challenges can be tackled more effectively. He will map out three domains of decision making – satisficing, optimising and transforming – and will outline lessons on the three corresponding pillars of policy explaining, in particular, why they are complementary, not competing.

This meeting marks the release of the Policymakers Summary of the book Planetary Economics by Michael Grubb, Jean-Charles Hourcade, and Karsten Neuhoff.

Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
