This paper evaluates relations between Russia and Iran in terms of the two countries’ political, economic and security interests, both regionally and vis-à-vis the West. It gives a detailed examination of military and nuclear cooperation, and questions the validity of the term ‘strategic partnership’, which is frequently used to describe the Russian–Iranian relationship.
