This is a transcript of a speech made by Anatol Lieven, Chair, International Relations and Terrorism Studies, King's College London and Senior Fellow, New America Foundation, Washington DC, at Chatham House on 5 May 2011.

He discussed the militant and terrorist threat in Pakistan, and the state's approach to it. He argued that core Western policy with regard to Pakistan should revolve around protecting the state from Islamist revolution.
