Chatham House

This is a transcript of an event held on 25 July at Chatham House with Eugene Rogan, Director, Middle East Centre, St Antony's College, University of Oxford.

The speaker discussed the popular uprings that have taken place across the Arab world in 2011 in the context of previous liberal political reform movements in the region. Drawing on historical precedents stretching back to the early nineteenth century, she argued that the struggle for democratic change in the Middle East and North Africa is by no means a new phenomenon.
