1 February 2012

Chatham House

This is a transcript of a speech made by Roger Altman, Founder and Chairman of Evercore Partners and United States Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (1993-95), on 8 February 2012 at Chatham House.

Mr Altman discussed the view from the US on the prospects for the global economy and international relations in 2012. He said that the fiscal stimulus that had been adopted in the US had helped to cushion the recession and restart growth, and said that Europe's lack of growth was in part due to its failure to provide a stimulus package. He predicted that the economy will be the determinant of the outcome of the US presidential elections in November.
