Chatham House

This is a transcript of a speech made by Fawzia Koofi, Member of Parliament, Afghanistan, on 17 February 2012 at Chatham House.

Ms Koofi argued that given the fragile state of the economy and security in Afghanistan, a hurried departure of international forces would place at risk the country's own security and that of the international community. She said that the population of Afghanistan today is more politically aware than it was under the Taliban, and has become progressive with regards to women's rights and political participation.
