There is a growing need for improved health surveillance and global health systems as current public health infrastructure is inadequate to tackle emerging challenges in the post-Millennium Development Goals era.  

Issues under the spotlight include how to finance global health, biosecurity, reforming the WHO (World Health Organization), health system reconstruction in post-conflict states, and data sharing in disease surveillance.
