About the author
Alan Beattie is an associate fellow at Chatham House, jointly in the Global Economy and Finance Department and the Europe Programme. He is a senior writer on trade, based in Brussels, for the Financial Times, and comments on a wide range of economics, trade and EU issues. Previously he was the FT’s international economy editor, based in London and Washington, DC. He has covered the G7/G20 processes, the International Monetary Fund and the US Federal Reserve. Before joining the FT in 1998, Alan worked as an economist at the Bank of England. He has an MPhil in economics from Cambridge University and a BA in history from Oxford University.
