Our research

Remaining a trusted source of information and analysis is central to our work. Our research aims to get to the heart of international questions: informing, analysing and influencing policy while our mission and values underpin all of our activities.

We always retain editorial control over everything we publish, irrespective of the source of funding. This is in accordance with the principles set out by Chatham House’s governing council. These principles ensure the continuing independence and objectivity of our research, events and publishing.

Chatham House does not take institutional positions on policy issues. We publish a diverse range of opinions and owe no allegiance to any government or political body. Responsibility for the opinions expressed in our published outputs rests with the authors.

Our researchers and authors

Our researchers and authors are experts in their respective fields.

Authors come from a wide range of professional backgrounds, including diplomacy, academia, the media, finance and government. This gives our work nuance and allows us to provide analysis of cross-cutting issues, drawing on our different research centres and programmes.

Our research publications combine academic rigour with an accessible style to reach as wide an audience as possible.

Our expert comments provide immediate, accessible expert analysis of breaking news in international affairs.

Our fellows are often the go-to researchers for government briefings, parliamentary committee evidence and media enquiries.

Our editorial process

Chatham House’s rigorous editorial processes ensure we maintain our reputation as a world-leading source of independent analysis, informed debate and influential ideas on international affairs.

External and internal peer review helps to ensure the quality and credibility of our writing. All Chatham House reports and research papers are externally and internally peer reviewed, fact-checked and tested for originality. Our policy papers are internally peer reviewed and provide concise, timely policy advice on fast-moving topics. We also have a clear anti-plagiarism policy.

Our in-house editors ensure that our standards are upheld across all of our published outputs, including our expert comments, explainers and research publications.

Chatham House is committed to ensuring a gender balance for all published outputs in line with our EDI strategy. We also endeavour to commission authors from a diverse range of backgrounds and ethnicities. For multi-author publications that focus on a country-specific topic(s), we include author(s) from the relevant country/countries where possible.
