Middle East and North Africa

Research on the Middle East and North Africa region focuses on changes to politics and society, economics, and security issues.

The Middle East and North Africa is a region of significant geopolitical, economic and strategic importance, but remains vulnerable to conflict, climate change, political upheaval and entrenched social inequalities.

Our research on the region, led by our Middle East and North Africa Programme, examines these dynamics through both bottom-up and top-down approaches ranging from the local to transnational, in an effort to shape regional and international policymaking.

Key research themes include transnational conflict and regional security, economic and geopolitical trends, state-society relations and popular mobilization, and international policy towards the region.
