Chatham House Director Bronwen Maddox received a letter from Buckingham Palace on 9 May 2024 confirming that His Majesty the King was delighted to accept the Patronage of The Royal Institute of International Affairs, Chatham House.

Royal Patronage was granted following a review of all Patronages held by the late Queen Elizabeth II. The new Patronage continues a long history dating back to the granting of the Institute’s Royal Charter by His Majesty King George V in 1926.

Members of the Royal Family serve as Patrons of over 3000 charities, military associations, professional bodies and public service organizations across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth and wider world.

They support their patronages by attending events to thank staff and supporters and sending messages to mark major events and milestones.

Bronwen Maddox said:

‘Chatham House is delighted to accept the Patronage of The King, a great help in advancing our work on the security, prosperity and sustainability of the world.’
