• MyAthens is the single login for eLibrary and all the online resources provided by Chatham House library. To access, please use your chathamhouse.org login details.

Is training available?

Two types of training on searching online resources are available:

• One-to-one online training sessions;
• Training sessions in person at the library.

• Members can access the archives held at Chatham House by arrangement with the library.
• Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance if you would like to review any archive materials.
• Archives include transcripts from 1920 onwards, photographs of Chatham House, correspondence, and study group and publications records.
• Two sections of the archive are also available on the National Archives website.

Borrowing

You may borrow up to ten books at a time for up to four weeks. The following material is for use within the library only:

• Reference items
• Journals
• Newspapers

Please return or renew books promptly. Items may be renewed up to ten times if not requested by another user.

If materials are not returned, you will be invoiced for replacement plus an administrative fee and your access to library resources will be suspended until the matter is settled.

Failure to return items or pay the invoice could lead to membership sanctions.

Etiquette

While using the library please ensure you:

• Do not disturb other library users;
• Set your mobile device to silent;
• Never answer or speak on the phone in the library;
• Refrain from taking food into the library.

Books and pamphlets

See the most recent acquisitions in the Library Catalogue or download a list of new books, updated monthly.

Newspapers and journals

We provide UK and international daily newspapers and subscribe to 45 print journals across all areas of international affairs.

We also hold complete sets of Chatham House’s journals in print format:

• International Affairs (1922-present)
• Bulletin of International Affairs (1925-1945)
• The World Today (1945-present)
• Journal of Cyber Policy (2016-present)

Seating and desks

• The library has a small informal seating space, with tables and chairs for casual study and meetings. There are also desks with plugs for laptops and two computers for use by visitors.
• All space is available on a first-come, first-served basis. Spaces cannot be reserved or held for you in your absence.

Wi-Fi

• Free wi-fi access is available in Chatham House – see signs around the library, or ask a member of library staff for details.

Computers

• There are two computers available for use by members.
• Memory sticks are not permitted for security reasons.
• If all the computers are taken and you would like to search the library catalogue or eLibrary, please speak to a member of staff.

Printing and copying

• Printing can be done from the library computers at a cost of 10p per sheet. There is a coin-operated photocopier which costs 10p per sheet and prints A4 or A3.

If you’re not a member you will need to demonstrate a research need to access our material. Please contact us in advance to arrange your visit.
