By identifying perceptions of the US abroad and what drives them, this project aims to bring areas of dissonance between US intention and foreign impact to the attention of US policy-makers.
The first round of this project gathered elite views of the US in six countries in Asia and Europe respectively with a view to seeing how the context in which different countries and regions view the US could help inform better policies that will have the desired impact. The findings were published in a report in 2014.
The second round, which is ongoing, will conduct a similar survey examining nations in the former Soviet Union and in Latin America.
This project is supported by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
