Biography

Basem Mahmoud is a programme manager with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House.

Basem manages multiple projects related to conflict, state dynamics, and state building in Syria and Libya. He also manages and contributes to cross-country thematic projects with a focus on contentious politics, future of statehood, good governance, and social protection in the MENA region.


Basem joined Chatham House in 2019. Prior to that, he managed a wide range of projects and programmes with the Anna Lindh Euro-Mediterranean Foundation, Freedom House, Friedrich Naumann Foundation, and many local organizations in the region.

Basem holds an MA in conflict, security, and development from the University of Bradford.
