Biography

Basem has over 15 years of experience in research, policy, and development management. His expertise spans contentious politics and state dynamics in fragile contexts, good governance, economic development, and social protection.


He joined Chatham House in 2019, having previously managed a wide range of projects with local and international organisations across the Middle East and North Africa.

Basem is a certified Project Management Professional (PMP). He holds a master’s degree in Conflict, Security, and Development from the University of Bradford and a bachelor’s degree in science from Cairo University.
