Biography

Carolyn Deere Birkbeck is a visiting fellow at the Graduate Institute’s Global Governance Centre in Geneva and a senior research associate in the Global Economic Governance Programme at the Blavatnik School of Government, University of Oxford. She was previously assistant director of the global inclusion theme at the Rockefeller Foundation in New York.

Dr. Deere Birkbeck is the founder and board chair of Intellectual Property Watch, the leading independent news services on global policymaking on intellectual property and, in 2019, launched Health Policy Watch, providing professional independent reporting on global health policymaking.

She received her Bachelor of Economics from the University of Sydney, MA (Economics, Energy and Environment) from the Johns Hopkins University School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), and DPhil in International Relations from University College, Oxford.
