G. Garvin Brown IV

Biography

Garvin Brown is a retired Chairman of Brown-Forman Corporation, the distiller of Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, a company founded by his great, great grandfather in 1870.

Garvin started at Brown-Forman in 1996, joined the Board in 2006 and served as its Chair from 2007 to 2021. Today, he is a Director of Wolf Pen Branch, LLC, a Brown family holding company, and sits on non-profit boards, including Dendrifund, a sustainability foundation in Louisville, KY; the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES) in Washington DC; and the Shofar Fund, an educational charity designed to promote engagement with Jewish culture. He is also the benefactor of the Diamond-Brown Chair in Democratic Studies at McGill University, and a member of the Whisky Magazine Hall of Fame. 


Garvin was raised in Montreal, Quebec and is a graduate of McGill University (B.A. Poli Sci & History), the University of British Columbia (M.A. Poli Sci) and London Business School (M.B.A).
