Biography
Ian Park is a practising barrister at Essex Court Chambers. He was formerly a Commodore in the Royal Navy and served most recently as Head of Navy Legal and the Royal Navy’s senior barrister. Ian has deployed worldwide including as a legal adviser on operations to Afghanistan and in the Middle East. A member of the Attorney General’s Public International Law A Panel he has advised the UK Government, NATO and the UK’s allies and partners on a range of international law areas.
Ian is a graduate of St. John’s College, Cambridge, holds a Doctorate from Balliol College, Oxford, has been a Visiting Fellow at Harvard Law School and currently teaches international law part-time at Yale Law School. He has written or contributed to seven books including The Right to Life in Armed Conflict (Oxford University Press, 2018) and continues to collaborate on several academic international law projects.
