Biography

Dr Julie M. Norman is an Associate Fellow with the Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House, an Associate Professor in Politics and International Relations at University College London (UCL), and the Director of UCL’s Israel-Palestine Initiative.

She is the author of Gaza: The Dream and the Nightmare and many books and articles on political resistance in the Middle East, including The Palestinian Prisoners Movement and The Second Palestinian Intifada. She has also published widely on nonviolence, peacebuilding, extremism, and protracted conflicts.

She has worked with NGOs in Israel-Palestine, Egypt, Lebanon, and Iraq, and she has provided expert insights to the UK Parliament, UK Foreign Office, UK Ministry of Defence, and US Department of State. She is a frequent commentator on Middle East politics and international conflict for the BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, and other media outlets.
