Biography

Phesheya Nxumalo is a research associate in the Sustainability Accelerator within the Environment and Society Centre at Chatham House, focusing on natural resource governance, the energy transition and the geopolitical trends affecting climate change and action. Her research explores the drivers of resource dependencies, effective mechanisms to achieve a just and orderly energy transition, and new frontiers and pathways to a more equitable and sustainable future.


Prior to joining Chatham House, Phesheya worked for the Natural Resource Governance Institute. She contributed to the development of research and advocacy projects focused on the challenges and opportunities of the energy transition for resource rich countries. She also contributed to research on how women and marginalized communities can be empowered through the transition. 

Phesheya holds an MSc in international relations from the London School of Economics, and a BA in international relations and Middle East politics from Brown University.
