Biography
Dame Rosalind Marsden is a former British diplomat, who served as Ambassador to Afghanistan, Ambassador to Sudan, Consul-General in Basra, Director Asia-Pacific and Head of the United Nations Department in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). Earlier in her career, she served in the British Embassies in Japan and Germany.
After leaving the FCO, she was appointed as the EU Special Representative for Sudan and South Sudan.
She subsequently worked for the Centre for Humanitarian Dialogue as the Senior Adviser on their Sudan Programme and then returned to Khartoum as a consultant for the U.N. integrated Transition Assistance Mission in Sudan supporting the democratic transition and peace building.
Rosalind is a Trustee of the Thomson Foundation, Waging Peace and the Friends of Ibba Girls School and is a Fellow of the Rift Valley Institute.
She received her BA in Modern History from Somerville College, Oxford (where she is an Honorary Fellow) and her DPhil from St Antony’s College, Oxford.
