Shihoko Goto

Shihoko Goto’s research focuses on the geopolitics of Asian economic security and the evolving architecture of economic alliances amid a shifting global order, with particular attention to Japan’s role in the region.

She is Vice President of Programs and Director of the Asia Program at the Foreign Policy Research Institute. She previously served as Director of the Indo-Pacific Program at the Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington, DC, and began her career as a financial journalist and donor country relations officer at the World Bank.

Shihoko is a Senior Fellow at the Mansfield Foundation and an executive board member of the Japan-America Society of Washington, DC.

She holds a BA in Modern History from Trinity College, Oxford, and an MA in International Political Theory from the Graduate School of Political Science at Waseda University in Tokyo.
