Biography
Shriti Vadera is the Chair of the World Bank Private Sector Investment Lab, which advises on scaling up private finance mobilisation in emerging markets; Chair of the Royal Shakespeare Company; Co-Chair of the UK Creative Industries Council; member of the International Advisory Board of Financing Asia’s Transition Partnership (FAST-P) sponsored by the Monetary Authority of Singapore; member of the UK Foreign Secretary’s External Foreign Policy Board; and a long standing judge for the Financial Times Business Book of the Year Award. She was previously the chair of Prudential plc and Santander UK, non-executive director of AstraZeneca and Senior Independent Director of BHP.
She has over 40 years of experience spanning public and private sectors, in the UK and internationally, including as a UK government minister and led the UK government’s response to the financial crisis, as a key architect of its pioneering bank recapitalization and funding plan in 2008, and helped design and negotiate the outcomes of the G20 London Summit in 2009. Prior to that she was on the Council of Economic Advisers, HM Treasury leading on policy areas for business, productivity, private finance, and international development. She started her career as an investment banker for 15 years with a particular focus on emerging markets.
