Tommy Hilton

Biography

Tommy Hilton joined the news and comment team at Chatham House in 2025.

He previously worked as an editor, journalist and researcher in the Middle East, holding various editorial positions at The National and Al Arabiya English. 

He coordinated coverage of key regional events including the 2019 Lebanon protests and the 7 October 2023 attacks in Israel and the subsequent war in Gaza. As an editor, his specialisms included audience growth, SEO and data visualization.

Tommy has an MPhil in Modern Middle Eastern Studies from the University of Oxford and a BA in History from the University of Manchester. His MPhil thesis focused on the formation of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia under King Abdul Aziz and he has since worked on various projects on Gulf history.
