Low Carbon Innovation in Cement and Concrete
This all-day event will bring together leading experts and stakeholders from the cement industry, academia and investor community, in addition to, construction companies, civil engineers and architects to explore pathways for decarbonization of the cement and concrete sector.
This roundtable forms part of a Chatham House project looking at low carbon cement through the lens of technological innovation. We will present the results of a patent landscaping analysis, identifying which companies hold the patents for key technologies in different countries, and examining networks of innovators and patent owners. In the context of well-known economic barriers, material availability and political challenges, participants will explore the opportunities for accelerating innovation and scaling-up specific solutions.
In light of the Paris agreement on climate change, which is expected to lead to higher levels of ambition on emissions reduction from industrial sectors, this roundtable will also explore the role of different policy approaches – such as product standards, public procurement, carbon pricing and urban design. It will also consider the potential for disruption in the cement sector through changing construction practices and the application of digital technology.
Attendance at this event is by invitation only.
