Event date and time: 5 July 2024 — 08:00 TO 08:35 BST

Event location: Online

On the morning of the general election result, we will unpick what it means for the parties, the UK and its place in the world. Our panel will discuss the new prime minister, their likely cabinet, and what the nature of the result means for the UK’s political landscape.

It will also explore the tough challenges ahead for the new government, at home and especially abroad. Foreign policy issues have played a greater role than usual in this election campaign and Gaza, Ukraine, the US and China, and the rise of the far right in Europe are all on the agenda.

The recording of this special event will become the election episode of Independent Thinking, the weekly podcast from Chatham House.
