Countering the Kremlin's influence on Belarus and Moldova

This event examines the policies of both Russia and the West towards Belarus and Moldova, in the context of the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.

Event date and time: 30 May 2023 — 12:30 TO 14:00 BST

Event location: Hybrid — Chatham House and Online

This event examines the policies of both Russia and the West towards Belarus and Moldova, in the context of the Kremlin’s war against Ukraine.

Russia’s overall ambitions for Belarus and Moldova are similar to its objectives towards Ukraine. However, the methods used by Russia to execute its policies in these two countries differ considerably.

Questions to consider include:

  • What are Russia’s methods?
  • How susceptible are Belarus and Moldova to Russian influence?
  • How does the West respond?
  • What should Western policy towards these countries look like?

This event will include key recommendations from the new Chatham House paper, Rethinking Western policy towards Belarus.
